CONVERSE COMFORTABLE

Your feet do not know comfort until they have slipped into a pair of converse shoes.

Converse company is an American shoe company that has been in existence since 1908 and they are still one of America’s biggest manufactures up to date. They manufacture their own products under the One Star, Chuck Taylor All Star and Jack Purcell trade names.

Converse shoes are distinguished by a number of features including the company’s star insignia which is present in all their original shoes. It usually present at the back of the sole of the shoe and for shoes like the high tops it is present on the outer side of each shoe.

Another feature that is distinct in the converse shoes is that they have a thick rubber sole. Which makes it comfortable to walk in for long distances and they are also comfortable for the wearer too. The shoes also have a smooth round top which makes it is easier for one to distinguish from other fake shoes.    

Over the years converse shoes have greatly gained popularity. Before they were considered to be shoes for men but now they are more popular with both sexes. When you look around the streets you will notice that majority of the youth prefer wearing the rubber shoes compared to other shoes.

Converse shoes come in two designs; low top and high top. The low top reaches the ankle which the high top is above the ankle. The most popular ones are the low tops because there are easily available.

Ian Duncan a shoe vendor in the central business district tells us that converse shoes are on demand. “These shoes are moving like hot cake”’ he says. He tells that one a good day he can sell about three to four pairs of shoes. Ian tells us that the shoes range from Ksh. 800-1500 depending on the price that he got them for.

When asked where he gets his shoes from, he says that he normally goes to Gikomba market. For him to get the original and the best shoes he has to be there before they open the shoe bales so that he is given number one priority by the people opening the bale. He tells us that he has been in the trade for more than two years so has been able to differentiate the original converse and the number two converse.

Ian also says the number one converse has the company’s insignia star, thick sole and a smooth round sole. He says a distinct feature in the original feature is the three stars at the back of the sole. These features are not in other converse shoes that are been manufactured.

The differences that we were told are things that not many individuals know and they would obviously be doped into buying the number two shoes thinking that they are the original ones.

When we walked in the streets of Nairobi we noticed that converse shoes are worn to make a fashion statement. Everyone can wear them and they can be worn with anything from jeans, skirts. dresses you name it.

Norah Nthenya a fanatic of converse shoes when interviewed said that they are the most comfortable shoes ever created by mankind. “I have different types of shoes but nothing beats the comfort of these shoes”. She says that she can where the shoes anywhere and anytime and with anything. She is amazed at how one pair of shoe can go with anything.

Converse shoes are here to stay so get comfortable in them.
